Trigger Point Massage Therapy

Trigger point massage therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. Trigger point massage therapy involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. it is performed together as part of a full body massage.

trigger pointThe results and benefits of trigger point massage are releasing constricted areas in the muscles thus alleviating pain. You can experience a significant decrease in pain after just one treatment. Receiving massage with trigger point therapy on a regular basis can help naturally manage pain and stress from chronic injuries.

The pain caused by trigger points may be the biggest cause of disability and loss of time in the workplace.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is used to release chronic muscle tension. The focus on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

A study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that people’s blood pressure fell after a single 45 to 60 minute deep tissue massage. Additionally, a 2010 meta-analysis in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry found that massage modalities like deep tissue reduce stress hormone levels and heart rate while boosting mood and relaxation by triggering the release of oxytocin and serotonin.

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber’s of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

deep tissueDeep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.

Why get a Deep Tissue massage?

It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. Because many toxins are released, it’s important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.

What is the purpose of Deep Tissue massage?

The purpose is to “unstick” the fibers of a muscle while releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, while relaxing and soothing the muscle. It is both corrective and therapeutic.

Swedish Massage

David Elron massageSwedish massage is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage. As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of Swedish massage therapy is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

A study conducted by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and published in The New York Times, found that volunteers who received a 45-minute Swedish massage experienced significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as arginine vasopressin – a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. Volunteers also had increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system, and a boost in the immune cells that may help fight colds and the flu.

Holistic Massage

holistic massageThis form of massage deals with you as a “whole.” Like other therapies, it is not just looking to treat the symptoms, but to establish the cause, whether it be internal or external. The aim is to re-balance the body so it achieves homeostasis or balance.

Holistic therapy treats the body as a “whole,” which means that not only will a massage treatment pamper your physical body but it will also establish internal and external problems and provide an effective method of re-balancing. Holistic massage is a therapeutic application of touch that is also a supportive, relaxing treatment that encourages the mind to slow down whilst energy is increased. This treatment also lifts the spirit on an emotional level.

Holistic massage benefits the mind, body and spirit. Massage relaxes taut muscles, aids lymphatic drainage, releases toxins and benefits the “whole” in many other positive ways. Physical and emotional stress can be reduced through therapeutic touch and a myriad of other restrictive problems can also be alleviated.

Aromatherapy Massage

Massage therapy is beneficial on its own; however when it is used in conjunction with essential oils, these two therapies can be synergistically more beneficial than when they’re performed separately. Aromatherapy massage involves a massage treatment using essential oils.

The essential oils used are determined by the massage therapist. They are chosen to therapeutically treat the emotional disorders of the client through the olfactory glands (through smell). Aromatherapy massage works when essential oils are inhaled by the client. When the fragrant oils are inhaled, a chemical message is sent to the brain which triggers a certain emotional and physical response.

Oftentimes the oils chosen for aromatherapy massage are meant to tap into the clients memory. These can be smells that remind the client of a time when they felt happy, safe, relaxed, peaceful or energized. The combination of the senses – the emotion elicited by the scent of the essential oil and the sensation of touch – is how aromatherapy massage makes a client feel relaxed, stimulated, peaceful or euphoric, depending on their desired emotional response. This combination can also provide stress relief and pain relief, help aid a sleeping disorder or physical condition, or energize the mind and body.
